Am I better off now, than four years ago?

This is a favorite politician’s rhetorical device. There he/she stands on a podium, surrounded by teleprompters, secret service guards, sharpshooters, and an adoring crowd of thousands. Not to mention the millions of households watching on cable, broadcast and listening on radio.

“Are you better off now, today, than you were four years ago?”

This is basically stupid question. Because the answer always has to be “NO!”

I have lost four years of my life. Sure I might have gained some Kodak moments, golden memories. And yes, I might have more money in the bank. My house might be worth more money.

But I would give it all to fit into my blue jeans of four years ago. As Neil Diamond sings, “Money talks, but it can’t sing nor dance, and it can’t walk. As long as I have you here, forever in blue jeans!”

So I am on the road to dementia, alzheimer’s — a big paunch, loss of muscle mass and mental acuity. Hell, I am lucky to be alive!

Four years of my life are gone! I am four years closer to my tombstone.

KORZYBSKI talks about time binding. And yes epitaphs are important. So are medals, and recognition. Achievement. Being elected to office.

But these can’t hide the inevitable fact of age.

Four years of my life are gone!
