The Vaccine

Now that they have announced the vaccine, I feel hope that our normal lives can be restored. I thank the Trump administration for getting enough consensus and money together to get “Warp Speed” going. From what I have seen on TV about the Federal government, it is surprising that they can agree on anything. It is very hard to judge a President during the times in which he is in the job. It is only much later, perhaps 5 or 10 years later, that you can start to forgive his blunders, and recognized his achievements.

But the subject of this post is not Donald Trump — it is the clear and present danger that the Corona virus poses. I have talked in many posts about its exponential nature. If you don’t control it early, it can get completely out of control. Now, I am not a doctor, and I don’t know the case fatality rate. I am pretty sure that it is much better than it was in March. But it certainly is a pretty scary way to die.

So the question is always about timing. How many months/weeks do we wait? What must we do now? I don’t know the answers. I am not President, and I don’t even have a job in the public sector. So, I don’t have to feel responsible to knowing the right answers — Lockdowns, mask wearing, herd immunity, crossing your fingers.

About my only advice is that I would rather prioritize public health over the stock market. As they say, you can’t take it with you. Not having a macho personality type, and carefully monitoring how things are going should be a guide to lockdowns. From what we have seen over the months, that a doubling number below 10 days, is a critical alarm, and is call to action. And there is tricky week to two week lag time.

You don’t want to hold a 150 million person superspreader party. Unless you want to experiment with herd immunity.
