Why you should sign my petition?
January Sixth 2021 was the day that a mob tried, and almost succeeded, in stopping the functioning of the U.S. Constitution. It was destructive and violent. It was domestic terrorism.
As Americans, we have the right to peaceably assemble. But with rights comes responsibility. There was nothing peaceable about January Sixth. It showed the worst of us Americans. The purpose of terrorism is to induce terror, to scare and intimidate us. It was downright evil.
We have lost our way. We have lost faith in our institutions: the President, the Courts, the Congress, the Military. And this mad drumbeat of conspiracy theories continues daily today.
If you feel confused and scared about these course of events, you are not alone. I share your fears, and that’s one big reason why I am running for U.S. Senate in 2022. Because I feel that
- We need to send a message to Mr. Trump that this brand of politics is not acceptable.
- We need to send a message to the Republican party that blind devotion to Mr. Trump, has consequences. Some Republicans have shown courage — Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney, Adam Kitzinger. But far too many have remained silent. And in Missouri, all of the Republican candidates are Trump cult members.
- We need to send a message to the Democratic party that our country is in a real crisis. The two party impasse has not been solved.
- That you have faith and hope.
Signing my petition does not imply or bind you in any way that you will vote for me in the general election. It serves two purposes. It sends a message as talked about above, and it enables me to run in the general. That is all.
Why should you vote for me in the general election?
Having an independent, a man not bound by party, as our Senator has many advantages. Impartiality. The ability to caucus with either side. Right now there are only two Independents in the entire Senate — Angus King of Maine and Bernie Sanders of Vermont. Having another can only improve the situation.
You might find that you respect my character. That you like my story. And that I have what it takes.
That you can trust me. Because I am not an anonymous committee. It’s just me. It’s Nick Strauss.
You probably have your own reasons, and I would like to hear them. You can send me an e-mail at straussfor22@nick-strauss.com
