I wish to thank you for your service as Jurors in the most recent
impeachment trial.
As it is written, Matthew 05:09 “Blessed are the Peacemakers for they
shall be called the children of God.” As a nation, we have spent many
years as warfighters, and each day we face our moral predicament —
to avert the use of the unimaginable — the frightening and awesome
deadly power of the U.S. Military, while confronting a mean and
unforgiving world.
Give peace a chance.
After nineteen long years of War, we are calling you.
In 2002, Congress ceded its warpower authority to the Executive
branch in the Authorization for Use of Military Forces (AUMF) Act in Iraq.
Please support SJ Res. 10, the Kaine/Young Resolution
We ask you that Congress re-assert its war powers — U.S. Constitution,
Article I, section 8. “To raise and support armies, but no appropriation
of money to that use shall be for a longer term than two years”.
It is thought that today only the President should make war, for
today’s compressed timescale demands rapid response. But really,
is a trigger finger really needed? The road to war requires a
deliberative authority. The Congress provides the ideal forum for
open and transparent debate on the proper application of force.
Additionally, the Congress directly represents citizen soldiers
and their families. We assert that this will lead to better
decision making, and follows the intent of our Founding Fathers and
the Constitution of the U.S.
Let the Congress have the intelligence to evaluate the situation,
and take decisive action. To appeal to the spirit which resides in
all of us.
